Princess Kako, the second daughter of Prince and Princess Akishino, who are on an official visit to Brazil, home to the worlds largest Japanese community, attended a welcoming event in São Paulo, the largest city where many people of Japanese descent live.
On the 6th, local time, Princess Kako visited a museum in São Paulo, Brazils largest city, that introduces the history of Japanese immigration to Brazil.
This facility was opened 47 years ago to commemorate the 70th anniversary of immigration, and the then Crown Prince and Princess, now the Emperor Emeritus and Empress Emerita, attended the opening ceremony.
Princess Kako carefully toured the exhibits, asking the museum staff questions as she viewed a model of the ship that arrived at the Port of Santos 117 years ago in the 41st year of the Meiji era carrying the first Japanese immigrants, as well as displays recreating the houses built by the pioneers.
After this, Princess Kako was welcomed by children attending schools connected to the Japanese community.
And then, at the welcome event, he gave a speech in front of the gathered representatives of Japanese-Brazilian organizations, saying, I would like to once again express my deep respect for those who immigrated from Japan and their descendants, who have continued to make daily efforts despite facing various difficulties and have contributed to Brazilian society.
Ms. Reiko Yamashita Lygia from the archives, who explained things to Princess Kako, said, Princess Kako asked various questions in a lively, cheerful, and polite manner, and responded to us with great kindness.
