Former yokozuna Terunofuji, who has taken over the Isegahama sumo stable, held a press conference as the new Isegahama Oyakata and expressed his enthusiasm, saying, I want to make the stable even stronger than ever before.

Isegahama stables longtime master, former yokozuna Asahifuji, is reaching the Japan Sumo Associations retirement age in July. Therefore, it had been decided that former yokozuna Terunofuji, who retired this January, would inherit the elder name Isegahama and officially take over the stable as of the 9th.

Former yokozuna Terunofuji, now Isegahama Oyakata, held a press conference at his stable in Koto Ward, Tokyo, on the 9th and said, I feel a heavy responsibility in inheriting the long history of the Isegahama stable.

I want to make this team stronger than ever before, he said.

Also, regarding the retired former yokozuna Hakuho, he said, He is a great senior who gave me the opportunity to enter the sumo world, and we spent a year together in the same stable, talking about many things, so I truly feel its a real shame.

I would appreciate it if you continue to do your best for sumo from now on, he said.

And regarding continuing to coach the former Miyagino stable wrestlers, who were once disciples of former Yokozuna Hakuho, he said, For the past year, weve been in the same stable, and Ive been sharing what I can in my own way. From now on, I want to keep coaching everyone just as I have been.

On the other hand, the former stablemaster, former yokozuna Asahifuji, has taken on the elder name Miyagino following the retirement of former yokozuna Hakuho, and will now serve as a coach attached to the Isegahama stable.

The new Miyagino Oyakata said, I have simply been thinking about how to make the wrestlers stronger.

I will continue to provide guidance, so nothing will change in what we do, he said, and regarding Isegahama Oyakata, he expressed his expectations by saying, I hope he will bring out his own style in his coaching.
