The government is considering a leaders agreement at next weeks G7 summit regarding the Trump administrations tariff measures in the United States.

Prime Minister Ishiba received a report on the ministerial negotiations with Treasury Secretary Bessent and others from Minister for Economic Revitalization Akazawa, who returned on the 8th from his fifth visit to the United States, at the Prime Ministers official residence, and discussed future responses together with Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi, who was also present.

Minister Akazawa said, There are many things that need to be worked out by the administrative staff and cabinet ministers.

If we can maximize the progress of the discussions and move toward finding points of agreement as a whole package, I think there may be a time when Prime Minister Ishiba and President Trump will have to talk.

According to government officials, in the recent negotiations, Minister Akazawa presented a proposal to expand investment and imports, and the other side also responded favorably.

However, it is said that Japan has still not received any commitment regarding the review of the series of tariff measures it is seeking, and no common ground has been found that both sides can agree on.

While maintaining its stance of prioritizing national interests, the Japanese government continues to keep in mind the possibility of reaching a summit-level agreement in conjunction with next weeks G7 Summit to be held in Canada.
