Last year, according to a summary by the National Police Agency, it was found that more than 70% of people with dementia or suspected dementia who went missing and were later found dead had died within a 5-kilometer radius of where they disappeared.
警察庁によりますと、認知症やその疑いがあり、行方不明になったとして、去年、全国の警察に届け出があったのはのべ1万8121人で、前の年よりも918人減りました
According to the National Police Agency, the number of people reported missing to police across the country last year due to dementia or suspected dementia was 18,121, which is 918 fewer than the previous year.
都道府県別では、大阪府が2086人で最も多く、次いで神奈川県が1907人、埼玉県が1812人、愛知県が1476人、兵庫県が1454人などとなっています
By prefecture, Osaka has the highest number with 2,086 people, followed by Kanagawa with 1,907, Saitama with 1,812, Aichi with 1,476, and Hyogo with 1,454, among others.
届け出のあった1万8121人のうち、93％にあたる1万6877人は去年のうちに生存が確認されましたが、491人は亡くなった状態で見つかりました
Of the 18,121 people who were reported, 16,877, or 93%, were confirmed to be alive last year, but 491 were found deceased.
警察庁がその発見場所を分析したところ、77％余りの382人が行方不明になった場所から5キロ圏内で死亡していたことがわかったということです
When the National Police Agency analyzed the locations where the bodies were found, they discovered that more than 77%—382 people—were found dead within a 5-kilometer radius of where they went missing.
亡くなった場所は河川や河川敷が115人で最も多く、用水路・側溝が79人、山林が71人などとなっています
The most common place where people died was rivers and riverbanks, with 115 people, followed by irrigation channels and gutters with 79 people, and forests with 71 people.

一方、行方不明になった人の中には服や靴に取り付けたGPSの装置を活用して発見につながったケースが111件あったということで、警察庁は行方不明になった場所の周辺を中心に、GPSやドローンなどの技術も活用しながら、早期発見のために迅速に活動するよう、全国の警察に周知することにしています
On the other hand, there were 111 cases in which missing persons were found using GPS devices attached to their clothes or shoes. The National Police Agency has decided to notify police departments across the country to act quickly for early discovery, mainly focusing on the areas where people went missing and making use of technologies such as GPS and drones.
