In the House of Councillors election to be officially announced on the 3rd, so far, 16 political parties and organizations are planning to submit their lists for the proportional representation section.

Whether the ruling parties can maintain a majority by combining their uncontested seats, or whether the opposition can prevent this, is the main focus, and each party is putting all its efforts into winning seats through proportional representation.

This House of Councillors election will be officially announced on the 3rd, and voting and ballot counting will take place on the 20th of this month.

Before this, on the night of the 1st, a rehearsal for the process of accepting the list of proportional representation candidates was held in the auditorium of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in Kasumigaseki, Tokyo.

Approximately 200 staff members, just like on the 3rd, held a lottery to determine the order of applications, and then confirmed procedures such as handing over the necessary documents.

So far, for proportional representation, 16 parties and political groups are planning to submit their lists: the Liberal Democratic Party, the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, Nippon Ishin Japan Innovation Party, Komeito, the Democratic Party for the People, the Japanese Communist Party, Reiwa Shinsengumi, the Sanseito, the Japan Conservative Party, the Social Democratic Party, the NHK Party, The Road to Revival, Team Mirai, the Japan Seishinkai, the Japan Reform Party, and the Independent Union.

This House of Councillors election is being contested for 125 seats, including both seats up for election and those being filled due to vacancies out of a total of 248 seats, with 50 of those seats allocated to proportional representation.

In the House of Representatives, the ruling party has become a minority government, and in the House of Councillors, the focus is on whether the ruling parties can maintain a majority by combining their seats with those not up for election, or whether the opposition can prevent this. Each party is therefore making every effort to win seats through proportional representation.
