Prime Minister Ishiba reiterated his position regarding measures against rising prices, stating that lowering the consumption tax rate, as demanded by opposition parties, would take time and also affect funding for social security. He emphasized his intention to steadily proceed with measures such as cash benefits.
Prime Minister Ishiba gave a speech in Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and regarding the opposition parties proposal to lower the consumption tax rate as a measure against rising prices, he pointed out, Not only would it take time because we would have to change laws and systems, but also, the more wealthy people who consume a lot of food would benefit more from the tax cut.
On top of that, the consumption tax is truly an essential source of funding for social security such as healthcare, pensions, and nursing care, so the question is whether it’s really okay to do that.

Politicians shouldnt just say things that are popular at the time for the sake of elections.
On the other hand, regarding the 20,000 yen per person benefit that the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito included in their pledges for the House of Councillors election, it was explained that this amount was calculated by multiplying the annual food expenses of approximately 270,000 yen—excluding eating out—by the rate of price increases.
He also reiterated his intention to steadily implement measures such as benefits until wage increases outpace rising prices, and to provide even more generous support to households with children and low-income families.
