Two elementary school teachers in Nagoya City were arrested for sharing images of girls they had secretly photographed in a group on social media. According to interviews with investigators, it was found that the group members communicated anonymously using a highly secure app.

All of them are elementary school teachers. Yuji Moriyama 42 from Nagoya City and Fumiya Kosemura 37 from Yokohama City were arrested on suspicion of secretly filming girls underwear at facilities in Aichi and Kanagawa prefectures from last year to this year, and sharing the images and videos in a group on social media.

According to the police investigation, both of them have admitted to the charges.

In the investigation so far, it appears that the group was managed by suspect Moriyama and included nearly ten elementary and junior high school teachers, including the two who were arrested. It has been learned from interviews with investigators that they used highly confidential apps to share images and communicated anonymously.

It is reported that the group shared approximately 70 images and videos, and the police are working to uncover the full extent of the situation, believing that they were trying to avoid detection.

Expert: “I’ve never heard of a community made up solely of teachers, so I was shocked.” Sumire Nagamori from the organization “Hiiragi Net,” which patrols the internet for voyeuristic images and similar content, said, “While monitoring SNS communities where sexual violence images are exchanged, I have seen cases where people claim to be teachers, but I’ve never heard of a community made up solely of teachers, so I was shocked.”

He said, I think there was a desire to gather with people who are in the same position as teachers and share the same hobbies.

He pointed out that “the fact that it’s easy to secretly take photos with smartphones, combined with the development of highly private social networking sites where images can be easily shared in an environment where it’s hard to get caught, means that incidents like this could happen anytime, anywhere.” He added, “Even if some communities disappear due to reports from our patrols, similar communities quickly pop up again, so honestly, it feels like a game of cat and mouse.”

In order to prevent such content from flooding the internet, we need a nationwide system to remove it. I would also like the police to monitor online activity and investigate more proactively, such as by infiltrating suspicious communities.

An explanatory meeting was held at an elementary school in Nagoya City, where one of the arrested teachers had worked. At the meeting held on the night of the 26th, parents voiced their concerns.

According to the principal, more than 270 parents attended the briefing, where the school explained that they are prioritizing the emotional care of the children and discussed what will be done about the classes previously taught by the arrested teacher.

On the other hand, some parents expressed concerns, saying things like, At this rate, we cant send our children to school with peace of mind.

In response to these concerns, the school has decided to cancel PE classes that require a change of clothes on the 27th.

According to the principal, Moriyama, the suspect, was in charge of creating the School Newsletter to inform parents about what was happening at the school, and he was taking photos of school events, classroom activities, and the children during recess.

The principal said, If the content of the report is true, it is an act that must not happen.

We just have to do whatever we can to regain trust, he said.

A woman in her 30s who attended the parents meeting said, He was a kind and cheerful teacher.

He was the first teacher who helped us when my child transferred, and he also showed us around the classroom, she said.

He said, The schools credibility will be lost, so I hope this wont happen again and that children will be able to attend school with peace of mind.

A male guardian in his 30s said, “The school explained that ‘no hidden cameras were found,’ but I still can’t shake off my anxiety, so I asked them to promise to check before every class.”

I cant help but wonder what I should do if I think that my own child might have been photographed as well, he said.
