With the deadline of August 1st approaching for President Trump to impose a 25% tariff on imports from Japan, there is a desire to advance negotiations toward reaching an agreement that will benefit both sides.
赤澤大臣は21日午前10時半すぎ、ワシントンに向けて羽田空港を出発しました。
Minister Akazawa departed from Haneda Airport for Washington shortly after 10:30 a.m. on the 21st.

This will be the eighth visit to the U.S. for negotiations.
これに先立って、赤澤大臣は記者団に対し「アメリカも、わが国も守るべき国益があり、交渉は一筋縄ではいかないが、双方で合意できる着地点を見つけるため、真摯かつ誠実な協議を精力的に続けたい」と述べました。
Prior to this, Minister Akazawa told reporters, Both the United States and our country have national interests that must be protected, so negotiations will not be straightforward. However, we would like to continue sincere and earnest discussions with vigor in order to find a point of agreement that both sides can accept.
赤澤大臣は、現地でラトニック商務長官との会談を22日未明以降に調整しているほか、ベッセント財務長官やUSTR＝アメリカ通商代表部のグリア代表との会談も行いたいとしています。
Minister Akazawa is arranging a meeting with Secretary of Commerce Latnick after the early hours of the 22nd, and also hopes to hold meetings with Secretary of the Treasury Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Greer of the USTR.
政府関係者によりますと、日米交渉は日本からの巨額の投資やアメリカ製品の輸入拡大などによって、アメリカの貿易赤字を削減していくとする日本側の提案をアメリカ側が精査している段階だということで、赤澤大臣は相手側の作業の進捗を確認したいとしています。
According to government officials, the Japan-U.S. negotiations are at a stage where the American side is examining Japans proposal to reduce the U.S. trade deficit through large-scale investments from Japan and the expansion of imports of American products. Minister Akazawa wants to confirm the progress of the other sides work.
そして、トランプ大統領が、日本からの輸入品に対して25％の関税を課すとしている期日が8月1日に迫っていることも念頭に、日米双方の利益となる合意の実現に向けて交渉を進展させたい考えです。
