Seven suspects, all 24 years old, have been arrested for allegedly abducting a man in his 30s living in Tokyo by car, detaining him for three months, and repeatedly assaulting him.

The Metropolitan Police Department believes that work-related troubles are behind the incident and is investigating the details.

The people arrested are Yuuto Oshiro, a 24-year-old self-employed man from Itabashi Ward, Tokyo, and six other male suspects in their twenties, making a total of seven suspects.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, in January of this year, there is suspicion of confinement and injury after a man in his 30s living in Tokyo was abducted by car, confined for three months in places such as hotels and storage lockers, and subjected to assaults such as having his fingers struck with a hammer and being scalded with boiling water, resulting in serious injuries.

In late April of this year, the police received a report saying, It seems a man is being held captive, and began searching for his whereabouts. Two days later, they found and rescued the man, who was in a car on a street in Toshima Ward.

The construction-related company where the man worked had subcontracted interior work and other tasks to suspect Oshiro, but due to deficiencies in the work, they had stopped payment at the time.

The Metropolitan Police Department believes that work-related troubles like these are behind the incident, and is investigating the details.

In response to questioning, suspect Oshiro reserved comment, saying, I will speak after my lawyer arrives, while the other six are either denying the charges or remaining silent.

A man who witnessed the victim being protected said, I thought something had happened. A man in his 70s who saw the scene where the male victim was protected said, I heard police officers saying things like He ran away, he ran away over the radio, and dozens of officers were surrounding the van.
