長嶋ながしま茂雄しげおさん 3日にちに死去しきょ 悼いたむ動うごき各地かくちで広ひろがる

Shigeo Nagashima, who left a brilliant record in professional baseball and was affectionately known as Mr. Professional Baseball, passed away on the 3rd at the age of 89.

Movements mourning the death of Mr. Nagashima, who enjoyed nationwide popularity, are spreading across the country.

At his home in Tokyo on the morning of the 4th, former players whom Mr. Nagashima coached during his managerial days, such as Kiyoshi Nakahata and Yoshinobu Takahashi, came to pay their respects.

Kiyoshi Nakahata said, I told him to continue to be my goal. Nakahata played as a player when Mr. Nagashima was serving as manager for his first term, and at the 2004 Athens Olympics, he served as the head coach of the Japanese national team in place of Mr. Nagashima, who was unable to lead the team due to illness.

After about 30 minutes of paying his respects, Mr. Nakahata told the press, He looked like he was about to shout, Hey, is everyone doing well?

I was overwhelmed with frustration, he said, struggling to get the words out.

Yoshinobu Takahashi said, I owe where I am now to Mr. Nagashima. Takahashi, who joined the Giants in 1998 when Mr. Nagashima was serving his second term as manager and later became a manager himself, said, With his family and Mr. Nakahata there, we were chatting about old times, and he looked like he was about to burst out laughing.

I think I joined the Giants because Mr. Nagashima was the manager, and it was also the manager who guided me.

When asked about his memories with Mr. Nagashima, he said, There have been many things since we first met, but after I became the manager, we had more opportunities to talk one-on-one.

There were times when I was scolded harshly, but they supported me.
