Due to the impact of not being able to operate out-of-service trains within Tochigi Prefecture on the Tohoku Shinkansen, service was suspended for over five hours on both the inbound and outbound lines between Sendai and Tokyo on the 17th, affecting approximately 54,700 passengers.
JR東日本によりますと18日、同じ車両の単独での運行を取りやめるため、東北、山形の各新幹線はあわせて22本が全部または一部の区間で運休する予定だということです
According to JR East, on the 18th, in order to stop operating the same train cars alone, a total of 22 Tohoku and Yamagata Shinkansen trains are scheduled to be fully or partially suspended on certain sections.
17日午前11時20分ごろ、栃木県内の宇都宮駅と那須塩原駅の間で回送中の新幹線が走行できなくなり、線路上で停車しました
Around 11:20 a.m. on the 17th, a Shinkansen train being transferred out of service stopped on the tracks and became unable to move between Utsunomiya Station and Nasushiobara Station in Tochigi Prefecture.
この影響で東北新幹線は、仙台と東京の間の上下線で5時間あまりにわたって運転を見合わせ、山形、秋田新幹線も一部区間で運転を見合わせました
Due to this, the Tohoku Shinkansen suspended operations for over five hours on both the up and down lines between Sendai and Tokyo, and the Yamagata and Akita Shinkansen also suspended operations on some sections.
JR東日本によりますと東北、山形、秋田の各新幹線はあわせて224本で遅れや運休が発生し、およそ5万4700人の乗客に影響が出たということです
According to JR East, delays and cancellations occurred on a total of 224 Tohoku, Yamagata, and Akita Shinkansen trains, affecting approximately 54,700 passengers.
今回走行できなくなった回送列車は、山形新幹線の「E8系」で、去年3月、導入されたばかりの車両で、JRが詳しい原因を調べています
The out-of-service train that became unable to operate this time is the Yamagata Shinkansen E8 series, a model that was just introduced last March. JR is currently investigating the cause in detail.
JR東日本は18日この車両の単独での運行を取りやめることを決め、山形新幹線21本と東北新幹線1本のあわせて22本について、全区間または一部の区間で運休する予定にしています

「E8系」でほかにもトラブル
JR東日本によりますと、17日午前10時半すぎに山形駅を出発して那須塩原駅に向かっていた別の「E8系」の回送列車が福島県の郡山駅で停車したあと、自力で走行できない状態になったということです
According to JR East, there was another trouble with the E8 series. After departing from Yamagata Station and heading toward Nasushiobara Station on the morning of the 17th, another E8 series non-passenger train stopped at Koriyama Station in Fukushima Prefecture and became unable to move on its own.
さらに午後2時半すぎには福島市内の福島駅と笹木野駅の間を走行していた「E8系」の営業列車で車両のモニターに不具合の表示が出たため、笹木野駅に停車しました
At around 2:30 p.m., a commercial E8 series train running between Fukushima Station and Sasakino Station in Fukushima City stopped at Sasakino Station because a malfunction was indicated on the trains monitor.
運転に支障がないことを確認したため、まもなくして運転を再開したということです
Since it was confirmed that there were no obstacles to driving, operations were resumed shortly thereafter.
