The National Police Agency is urging people to be cautious of water-related accidents by avoiding dangerous places such as areas with strong currents or where algae make surfaces slippery, ensuring that guardians accompany children, and not letting children play in the water alone.
When the temperature rises, there are more opportunities to go to the sea, pool, or play in the river.

We interviewed Professor Hidetoshi Saito of Nagaoka University of Technology, who is a director of the Japan Society of Aquatic Accident Research, a general incorporated association that investigates water-related accidents nationwide and proposes research and countermeasures.
Q
A
Why do water accidents happen? A
The most accidents happen during leisure activities, and its often caused by adults letting their guard down, thinking Im used to this, so its fine.
Also, it is common for children to have accidents when they go to rivers or the sea with their friends after school.
Q
A
What can we do to prevent water accidents? A
The most important thing is to make a plan before going out.
When you say youre having a barbecue by the river, a lot of people dont get ready to go into the water.
And there are cases where children, dressed lightly, enter the river and have accidents while their parents are preparing meals, so I want parents to always keep an eye on their children and act together with them, making sure to plan ahead so there is no unaccounted-for time.
Q
A
What should you be careful about when playing in places like the sea or rivers?
However, wearing it under this scorching sun may lead to heatstroke, and if you go into deeper water to cool your whole body, the risk becomes even greater.
There are places where the river suddenly becomes deep.
If you play in places where the water is below your knees, there is less chance of drowning even if you fall, so please keep this in mind.
Q
A
What should I do if I drown even though I took precautions? A
They often say this, but you should wait lying on your back with your back facing down.
If you do that, your mouth and nose will be above the surface of the water, so make sure to breathe properly and wait for rescue.
