The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people to be very careful about landslides and flooding in low-lying areas, as well as to watch out for lightning strikes and severe gusts of wind such as tornadoes.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, a low-pressure system accompanied by a front is expected to pass from western to northern Japan by the 17th. Warm, moist air will flow in, and combined with rising daytime temperatures, the atmosphere is expected to become extremely unstable.

For this reason, in western Japan, there is a risk of localized heavy rain accompanied by thunder, with more than 30 millimeters falling per hour until around noon on the 17th.

In northern Kyushu, there is a risk of heavy localized rain from late morning to night on the 16th, and rainfall could reach up to 100 millimeters in some areas over the 24 hours until the morning of the 17th.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people to be extremely cautious of landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, and rising river levels, as well as to be alert for lightning and severe gusts of wind such as tornadoes.

If there are signs that a developed cumulonimbus cloud is approaching, such as the surroundings suddenly getting dark or a cold wind blowing, please immediately move into a sturdy building to ensure your safety.

Extremely hot days are expected in western Japan. A heatstroke warning alert has also been issued, so its important to prepare for the heat.

The highest temperature on the 16th is expected to be 36°C in Niihama City, Ehime Prefecture, and 35°C in Takamatsu City, Okayama City, and Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, making it a scorching hot day.

A Heatstroke Alert has been issued for Wakayama Prefecture, Kagawa Prefecture, the Amami region of Kagoshima Prefecture, and the Yaeyama region of Okinawa Prefecture, as the risk of heatstroke is extremely high.

Temperatures are expected to be high this week, with extreme heat predicted in urban areas across the country.
