With only ten days left until the end of the Diet session, party leaders from the ruling and opposition parties will hold talks on the 12th regarding U.S. tariff measures, and the opposition plans to request an explanation about the progress of the negotiations.

Amid these circumstances, within the Constitutional Democratic Party, there are growing calls to refrain from submitting a no-confidence motion against the Cabinet, considering the potential impact on Japan-U.S. negotiations and other matters.

In the Diet on the 11th, a party leaders debate was held. Representative Noda of the Constitutional Democratic Party harshly criticized Prime Minister Ishiba for postponing measures such as those to address rising prices. In response, Prime Minister Ishiba argued that the government is making every effort to tackle the issue, including releasing stockpiled rice and providing subsidies for gasoline prices.

Also, as the end of the parliamentary session approaches, seven opposition parties including the Constitutional Democratic Party jointly submitted a bill to the Diet to abolish the provisional gasoline tax rate starting next month.

On the 12th, a meeting between the ruling and opposition party leaders was held regarding the U.S. tariff measures. Taking into account that a Japan-U.S. summit is being arranged to coincide with next weeks G7 summit, the opposition plans to ask Prime Minister Ishiba to explain the progress of the negotiations.

However, within the party, there are opinions that the motion should be submitted in order to clearly demonstrate a confrontational stance against the administration ahead of the House of Councillors election.
