Japan Post failed to properly conduct roll calls to check for things like alcohol consumption among delivery personnel, as required by law. On the 5th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism notified the company that it plans to revoke its license for transportation operations.

Due to this penalty, Japan Post will no longer be able to use about 2,500 vehicles, such as trucks and vans, for deliveries.

Japan Post revealed in a company investigation this April that proper roll calls to check for things like alcohol consumption among delivery staff were not being conducted at 2,391 out of 3,188 post offices nationwide, which is 75% of all locations. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has been conducting an audit based on the Motor Truck Transportation Business Act.

In previous audits, it was found that violations such as creating false records claiming that roll calls had been conducted, even though they had not, were confirmed.

Japan Post has received permission from the government to operate transportation services and uses about 2,500 trucks and van-type vehicles for deliveries. However, on the 5th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism notified the company that it plans to revoke this permission.

After holding a hearing to listen to the companys side on the 18th of this month, they plan to officially decide on the disciplinary action.

Approximately 2,500 vehicles will no longer be available for delivery due to this measure.

Japan Post also uses approximately 32,000 light vehicles that have been registered with the government, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism plans to continue its audit and is considering administrative actions such as suspending the vehicles.
