The large and powerful Typhoon No. 9 is expected to approach the Ogasawara Islands most closely around the 29th while maintaining its strong intensity. Please be on alert for high waves, and exercise caution regarding landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, rising river levels, and strong winds.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the large and strong Typhoon No. 9 is believed to be moving north at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour over the sea, 290 kilometers southeast of Chichijima in the Ogasawara Islands as of noon.

The central pressure is 965 hectopascals, with maximum sustained winds near the center of 40 meters per second and maximum instantaneous winds of 55 meters per second. Within 150 kilometers southeast and 110 kilometers northwest of the center, violent winds of 25 meters per second or more are occurring.

The typhoon is expected to maintain its strength as it moves north and come closest to the Ogasawara Islands around the 29th.

For this reason, high waves are expected to continue in the Ogasawara Islands, and rough seas with swells are forecast through the 30th.

In addition, the wind and rain will intensify, with very strong winds expected through the 30th. There is also a risk of intermittent heavy rain accompanied by thunder from the 29th to the 30th.

The amount of rainfall in the 24 hours until noon on the 29th is expected to be up to 100 millimeters in areas with heavy rain in the Ogasawara Islands, and up to 150 millimeters in the 24 hours until noon on the 30th. The rainfall is expected to continue increasing thereafter.

The movement of the typhoon is expected to slow down around the 31st, so the effects of the typhoon may last longer.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is warning people to be on alert for high waves and urging them to pay close attention to the risk of landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, rising river levels, and strong winds.
