According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, as of 6 a.m., Typhoon No. 8 is moving north over the sea, 30 kilometers west-southwest of Miyako Island in Okinawa Prefecture.

Due to the moist air around the typhoon and the warm, humid air circulating along the edge of the Pacific high pressure system, rain fell on the Pacific side of western Japan and in the Amami region, even though these areas are far from the typhoon. In fact, in the one hour up to 6:30 a.m., a rain gauge installed on Kikai Island in Kagoshima Prefecture recorded a heavy rainfall of 33 millimeters.

In Toshima Village, Kagoshima Prefecture, where active seismic activity continues, the risk of landslides has become extremely high due to the rain that has fallen so far, and a landslide warning has been issued.

The typhoon is expected to turn into a tropical depression during the 26th, but since moist air will continue to flow in, the atmospheric conditions in Okinawa, Amami, and southern Kyushu will remain very unstable through the 27th, with the risk of heavy or very heavy rain leading to possible torrential downpours.

The amount of rainfall expected in the 24 hours until the morning of the 27th is as follows: up to 300 millimeters in Kagoshima Prefecture excluding the Amami region, 150 millimeters in the Amami region, and 80 millimeters in Okinawa Prefecture.

Because the movement of the tropical depression will slow down, rain clouds will continue to cover the area, and there is a risk that the amount of rainfall will increase.
