Seismic activity remains active near the Tokara Islands, and on the morning of the 13th, several earthquakes with a seismic intensity of 4 were observed.

In Toshima Village, Kagoshima Prefecture, there have been more than 1,900 earthquakes with a seismic intensity of 1 or higher so far, and the Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people to be alert for earthquakes with a maximum intensity of around lower 6 for the time being.

In the area around Akusekijima and Kodakarajima in the Tokara Islands of Kagoshima Prefecture, seismic activity has intensified since the 21st of last month, and so far, a maximum seismic intensity of lower 6 has been observed on Akusekijima.

On the 6th of this month, two earthquakes with a seismic intensity of upper 5 were observed in Akusekijima in quick succession, and on the 7th, another earthquake with a seismic intensity of lower 5 was recorded on Akusekijima.

The number of earthquakes with a seismic intensity of 1 or higher observed were: 117 times on the 11th, 30 times on the 12th, and 3 times as of 4 a.m. on the 13th.

Since the 21st of last month, there have been a total of 1,925 earthquakes, indicating ongoing active seismic activity.

After that, earthquakes continued to occur, and tremors with a seismic intensity of 4 were observed a little after 5:30 a.m. and just before 6 a.m. on the 13th.

In the area near the Tokara Islands, there was also active seismic activity the year before last and four years ago, but the number of earthquakes this time is far greater than in previous cases.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is warning that when the epicenter is shallow and close to observation points, the seismic intensity tends to be higher, and is urging people to be alert for earthquakes of up to around lower 6 on the Japanese seismic scale for the time being.

Also, moist air is flowing into the area around Toshima Village, making the atmosphere unstable. On the 13th, there is a risk of heavy rain accompanied by localized thunderstorms.

The repeated shaking has loosened the ground.
