Ama and Fuka Jizo
This is a folk tale of an island in the Seto Inland Sea
There was a woman on the island a long time ago.
The ama was working at the sea by taking abalone and sardines.
The ama lost her husband at the sea and raised her child alone
He worked very well and took more than the guys.
One evening, the ama went to the sea farther than usual.
I managed to get a lot, but the wind was strong and the sea was getting rough
The ama was clung to the rock, but almost sank into the ocean.
That's when a shark appeared
The ama rides on the shark's back and the shark swims very quickly
The ama nearly fell down, so I put a tool to take the shells into the shark's back.
And the ama was able to swim back to the beach.
After the ama got better, I went to Jizo as usual.
The Jizo was lying down, and there was a tool stuck on his back.
The ama revealed that the shark was a Jizo statue.
The ama took great care of the Jizo statue more
The villagers also called them "Shark Jizo" and cherished them
