上皇さまは、付き添いの上皇后さまとともにお住まいがある東京 港区の赤坂御用地を車で出て、午後3時ごろ文京区の東京大学医学部附属病院に到着されました。
The Emperor Emeritus, accompanied by the Empress Emerita, left their residence at the Akasaka Estate in Minato Ward, Tokyo by car and arrived at the University of Tokyo Hospital in Bunkyo Ward around 3 p.m.
宮内庁によりますと、自覚症状はないものの、これまでの検査で冠動脈から心臓の筋肉への血流が不十分になる「心筋虚血」の可能性が高いと診断されたということで、入院して詳しい検査を受けられます。

上皇さまは91歳で、3年前に心臓の右心室と右心房をつなぐ弁が閉じにくくなる、三尖弁閉鎖不全による右心の心不全と診断され、薬の服用や水分の摂取制限といった内科的治療を続けられていました。

また、2012年、78歳の時には、狭心症と診断され、心臓の冠動脈のバイパス手術を受けていて、入院されたのはその時以来13年ぶりです。
