This years Pulitzer Prizes, awarded for outstanding journalism in the United States, were given to many journalists who covered the attempted assassination of Mr. Trump last July, as well as those involved in reporting on the U.S. presidential election.

The Pulitzer Prize selection committee announced the winners in each category for news coverage and other works from last year on the 5th.

Of these, the Breaking News category won by The Washington Post and the Breaking News Photography category won by a New York Times photographer were both awarded for coverage of the attempted assassination incident in which Mr. Trump, while giving a speech as the Republican candidate during the U.S. presidential election last July in eastern Pennsylvania, was targeted and shot at.

The photos selected for the Breaking News Photography category are a series capturing the moment a bullet grazed Mr. Trumps head and the scene of a bloodied Mr. Trump standing up with his fist raised.

In addition, ProPublica, an online media outlet that won the highest honor in the Public Service category, was recognized for its reporting on women who lost their lives because they were unable to receive treatment in states with strict abortion regulations.

Furthermore, there were notable reports on topics that became focal points in last year’s presidential election, such as a Wall Street Journal article reporting that businessman Elon Musk has been in regular contact with Russian President Putin since 2022, and a Reuters investigative report on the regulation of fentanyl, a drug that has become a social issue.
