The popular group TOKIO has announced that they will disband as of June 25th, following a compliance violation by member Taichi Kokubun.

This was announced on the website of TOKIOs agency on the afternoon of the 25th.

According to this, after confirming each others intentions among the members following the revelation of Taichi Kokubuns compliance violation, they have decided to disband TOKIO, which has been active for 31 years, as of the 25th.

In the announcement, it states, Given the current situation, we have determined that it would be difficult to regain everyones trust and support as the group TOKIO. Therefore, we have decided to bring an end to our activities as a group here.

Last week, Nippon TV announced that it had confirmed multiple compliance-related violations involving Mr. Kokubu, and his agency had just decided to suspend all of his activities indefinitely.

TOKIO debuted as a five-member male group in 1994, gained popularity by appearing in the NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen for 24 consecutive years from their debut year until 2017, and each member has been active in a wide range of fields, including variety shows and dramas.

Two members have left the group so far, but the remaining three established TOKIO Co., Ltd. in 2021 and continued their activities as a group.

TOKIO would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been involved with us over the past 31 years.

We take the situation very seriously, as the recent actions of Taichi Kokubun, which violated compliance regulations, have caused significant trouble and concern to everyone involved.

Once again, I sincerely apologize from the bottom of my heart.

I am truly sorry.

And so, after confirming each others intentions among the members, we have decided that, given the current situation, it would be difficult to regain your trust and support as the group TOKIO. Therefore, we have decided to bring our group activities to an end here.

Since our CD debut in 1994, we sincerely apologize for this sudden announcement to all the many fans and supporters of TOKIO, everyone involved, the media and sponsor companies who have given us opportunities and supported our activities, and especially to the people of Fukushima Prefecture and other local communities who have warmly embraced us.

Regarding the future, first of all, I would like to offer my apologies and greetings to everyone involved, and while each of us faces ourselves, I want to continue sincerely asking what we can do to contribute to those who have supported us so far.

Lastly, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has been involved with TOKIO over these long 31 years.

June 25, 2025 TOKIO: From Debut to Disbandment TOKIO was originally a five-member male idol group belonging to the former Johnnys Office, and made their CD debut in 1994 with LOVE YOU ONLY.
