The police have arrested a 34-year-old suspect of Peruvian nationality living in Shiga Prefecture on suspicion of hit-and-run involving two cars.

The person arrested is John Elias Rossi Cruz, a 34-year-old company employee of Peruvian nationality living in Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture.

According to the police, around 11 a.m. on the 18th, there is suspicion of a hit-and-run violation of the Road Traffic Act, as a car fled after colliding with two vehicles while driving on the outbound lane of the Shin-Meishin Expressway in Kameyama City, Mie Prefecture.

At the time, the suspect was driving the wrong way near the scene, and when another line of cars tried to avoid this vehicle, a following car crashed into them, resulting in an accident in which four women were injured.

According to investigators, the car they were riding in had a Gunma license plate and was seized on the 19th.

According to the police, during questioning, the suspect admitted to driving in the wrong direction but stated, I only hit one car, among other things.

The police are proceeding with their investigation on the assumption that there was a passenger in the car based on eyewitness accounts, and are also looking into the circumstances under which the suspect drove in the wrong direction and fled.

It appears that a blue car, which is believed to have been driving in the wrong direction, was towed to the premises of the Mie Prefectural Police Highway Traffic Police Unit in Tsu City shortly after midnight on the 20th. The car also had damage on its front left side.

There are marks on the left front side of the car that look like it collided with something.
