With the year-end tax reforms in mind, the plan is to clarify issues such as indicators for determining price fluctuations.

Regarding the income barrier, the minimum taxable income for income tax has been raised from 1.03 million yen to 1.6 million yen starting this year. The supplementary provisions of the revised law clearly state that, as a future policy, amounts such as the basic exemption will be increased in line with rising prices, and that specific measures for how to implement these increases will be considered.

In response to this, the governments Tax Commission, which consists of experts who discuss the tax system from a medium- to long-term perspective, held a general meeting on the 15th and confirmed that it will begin full-scale discussions on concrete measures to review the basic deduction in accordance with price fluctuations.

In future discussions, we plan to organize the key points for considering specific measures, such as which indicators to use to assess price fluctuations and how long the target period should be.

On top of that, the government’s tax commission plans to compile its opinions with the year-end tax reform in mind.
