High-level talks between the United States and Iran were held regarding Irans nuclear development.

Although both sides agreed to continue negotiations, differences in their positions have also become clear, and it is believed that a compromise will not be easy.

The talks between the United States and Iran, which have been underway since last month, were also held on the 11th in Oman in the Middle East, with U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East, Witkoff, and Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi leading their respective delegations.

In the talks, while the American side is demanding restrictions on nuclear development, the Iranian side claims that their nuclear development is for peaceful purposes and is calling for the lifting of sanctions.

After the talks, a senior U.S. government official said, This round of talks also lasted for more than three hours, both directly and indirectly.

We agreed to move forward with discussions to resolve the technical issues and expressed our intention to hold talks again soon.

In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi said, We had thorough discussions on a great many points of contention.

He stated that our positions are gradually coming closer, and indicated that the next round of talks is expected to take place in about a week.

On the other hand, before the talks, regarding the fact that U.S. envoy Witkoff expressed to the media his intention to demand a complete halt to uranium enrichment, Foreign Minister Araguchi pointed out that this contradicted the explanation given during the talks, and emphasized that while there is room for compromise on matters such as the level of enrichment, a complete halt is unacceptable.

As the discussion becomes more concrete and the differences in positions gradually become clear, it is seen as unlikely that either side will easily make concessions.
