It has been revealed that Governor Saito of Hyogo Prefecture has proposed to the prefectural assembly a plan to reduce his own salary by 50% for three months, taking responsibility as the head of the organization for the leak of private information of a former bureau chief who created an accusation document against Governor Saito.

There are also voices of opposition from the parliament.

Governor Saito of Hyogo Prefecture indicated his intention to reduce his own salary as a disciplinary measure, taking responsibility as the head of the organization after the prefectures third-party committee determined in May that the former director general leaked private information about the former bureau chief, who had written the whistleblowing document, to a prefectural assembly member.

Regarding this, it has been revealed that Governor Saito has put together a plan to reduce his own salary by 50% for three months starting in July, and the prefectural government has presented this plan to the assembly.

According to the prefecture, the governors salary is set by ordinance at 1.34 million yen per month, but under the current proposal, it will be reduced by 50%, making it 670,000 yen per month.

Also, it has been decided that the current vice governors salary will be reduced by 25% for three months.

The prefecture plans to submit a proposal to amend the ordinance necessary to reduce salaries at the regular prefectural assembly meeting that opened on the 3rd.

Regarding the issue of the information leak, the prefectural third-party committee pointed out that it was highly likely the leak was carried out under the instructions of Governor Saito and others. However, the governor has denied any involvement, and members of the assembly have voiced opposition to the disciplinary action, saying things like, We cannot accept closing the matter with just a salary cut.

Governor Saito: Taking Responsibility Myself After the regular prefectural assembly meeting, Governor Saito told reporters, We will be submitting an ordinance proposal, and we are preparing to reduce my salary by 20% for three months.

Currently, we are implementing a 30% cut, so combined with that, salaries will effectively be reduced by half.

I understand that there may be various criticisms, but as the head of the organization, I feel responsible for the fact that the prefectures information was not properly managed, so I would like to take responsibility myself.
