Police have arrested Rossi Cruz John Elias, a 34-year-old Peruvian national and company employee from Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture, on suspicion of hit-and-run involving two cars.

The suspect is believed to have made a U-turn on the main road in Shiga Prefecture and continued driving in the wrong direction for at least about 14 kilometers, flashing their headlights and otherwise interfering with surrounding vehicles. According to interviews with investigators, the police are also investigating on suspicion of dangerous driving resulting in injury, as the suspect obstructed traffic and caused injuries to passengers.

The suspect reportedly explained during questioning before the arrest that he had taken the wrong road, and the police are investigating on the assumption that he made a U-turn and drove in the wrong direction in an attempt to forcibly return.
