It is a procedure that requests the disclosure of the posters information from SNS operators and telecommunications carriers through the court, and compared to similar procedures in the past, it is characterized by a reduced burden on users in terms of cost and time.

According to the Supreme Court, there were 6,779 applications for disclosure orders of sender information in the preliminary figures for last year, which is an increase from the previous year.

It increased sevenfold.

Looking at it by month, there were 179 cases in October 2022 when the system started, 451 cases in October the year before last, and 738 cases in October last year, meaning the number has increased more than fourfold over two years.

Users can claim compensation for damages or file criminal complaints with the police based on the disclosed information about the poster.

Regarding the background of the increase, Associate Professor Shinichi Yamaguchi of the International University, who is well-versed in issues related to social media, says, There are more and more cases where celebrities and others declare that they will take legal action against slander and defamation on the internet.

It seems that the perception that its okay to fight back has started to spread throughout society.
