On a national highway in Naha City, a U.S. Marine Lance Corporal was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run after injuring four people in a car collision and fleeing the scene. It was found that just before the incident, the Lance Corporals car hit the side of the road and then, due to the impact, collided with another car.

The private is also suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, but according to the investigation, he stated, I thought the alcohol had worn off, and the police are conducting a detailed investigation.

Private First Class Ivan Garcia-Martinez of the U.S. Marine Corps age 20 was arrested on the 25th on suspicion of hit-and-run after he collided with another car while driving a passenger vehicle on a national highway in Naha City, injuring four people, and then leaving the scene. On the 27th, he was also referred to the prosecutors office on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

When the police examined footage from a car’s dashboard camera near the scene, they found that the vehicle driven by the corporal appeared to have crashed into a roadside buffer and then, due to the impact, collided with a nearby passenger car.

According to the police, after the accident, the breath of the corporal showed about twice the legal limit of alcohol, but in questioning, he stated, I thought the alcohol had left my system, so I drove, and he is reportedly denying that he was driving under the influence.

He also stated, I admit that I caused the accident, but its not true that I didnt provide assistance, and the police are investigating the details of the incident.
