On the morning of the 27th, an explosion occurred at a construction site in Edogawa Ward, Tokyo, injuring eight people.

According to the Tokyo Fire Department, at around 9:30 a.m. on the 27th, a report was received in Higashi-Kasai, Edogawa Ward, stating that a loud explosion was heard.

Black smoke rose from construction vehicles at the site, and the fire burned intensely for a while. More than 30 vehicles, including pump trucks, were dispatched to fight the fire, which was almost completely extinguished about an hour and a half later.

According to the Tokyo Fire Department and others, eight people in total, including workers at the scene and nearby residents in their 20s to 70s, were injured.

None of them are in life-threatening condition.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, construction work was being carried out at the site to drive piles for a new condominium underground, and there is a possibility that a gas pipe was damaged.

After the report, several more explosions occurred, so the Metropolitan Police Department is urging nearby residents to evacuate and is investigating the situation in detail.

The site is a residential area lined with apartment buildings, located right next to Kasai Station on the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line.

Firefighters are responding by conducting water discharge operations.
