The government is coordinating to hold the next ministerial negotiations this week regarding the U.S. tariff measures.

The Japanese government is coordinating with the U.S. side to hold the next ministerial negotiations in Washington on the 30th of this week local time, regarding the Trump administrations tariff measures.

If implemented, it would be the second consecutive week, and Minister for Economic Revitalization Akazawa expressed his enthusiasm, saying, I would like to have in-depth discussions with Treasury Secretary Bessent, whom I was unable to meet this time.

So far, the Japanese side has explained that expanding Japanese investment brings benefits to the American economy, such as job creation, and has also proposed reviewing systems to make it easier to import American-made cars and cooperating in the shipbuilding sector.

However, according to government officials, while the American side has shown a positive response to cooperation in areas such as shipbuilding, they remain cautious about reviewing a series of tariff measures—including those on automobiles—which Japan strongly desires.

The Japanese side intends to gain understanding at the ministerial level, including Secretary Bessent, regarding the review of tariff measures in the next and subsequent negotiations, and to create an environment in which a report can be made to President Trump. They are also considering making further proposals to promote understanding.

On the other hand, the government is expected to hold a meeting of the comprehensive task force with all cabinet ministers on the 27th, and once again confirm its commitment to fully support domestic companies.
