Regarding the bills related to pension system reform, the Liberal Democratic Party plans to broadly accept the proposed amendments by the Constitutional Democratic Party, which include measures to raise the basic pension. The three parties, including Komeito, will make final adjustments aiming for the bill to pass the House of Representatives within this month.

In regard to the pension system reform bills, which are a focal point in the current Diet session, revision talks between the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito, and the Constitutional Democratic Party began on the 22nd. The Constitutional Democratic Party presented the outline of a revision proposal that includes measures to raise the basic pension, which had been omitted from the government’s bill, and the ruling parties indicated they would take it back for further consideration.

In the outline presented by the Constitutional Democratic Party, it states that if, in the public pension financial review four years from now, a decline in the basic pension benefit level is expected, measures will be taken to raise it. At that time, it also mentions that steps will be taken to mitigate the impact of any temporary decrease in the Employees Pension benefit level.

On the 23rd, the Liberal Democratic Party had its executives discuss how to respond to this matter, and confirmed the policy of broadly accepting the proposed revisions, on the grounds that the basic pension increase was originally something the government had been considering, and that cooperation from the Constitutional Democratic Party should be sought in order to pass the bill.

The Liberal Democratic Party aims to have the bill pass the House of Representatives within this month, with the goal of enacting it during the current Diet session, which ends on the 22nd of next month. Next week, the three parties plan to finalize their coordination.
